Le Marche food has traditionally been noted for its quantity over quality but recent developments, led it has to be said by the interest in the region from outsiders both from other areas of Italy and from northern Europe, has led to a revival of traditional gastronomic fare. As in most of Italy the local dishes are based very firmly on the availability of seasonal produce.
Le Marche is also investing heavily in, and is now gaining a reputation for, high quality organic produce, both wines and food. The significant ecologic movement has raised the standard of wines produced and many local farmers are developing interesting varieties. The recent development of red wines from the region, Rosso Piceno, for export is the most obvious sign of changing times in the wine business.
