Ecology and Responsible Tourism

We are attempting to make the house as low impact as possible. We have two solar water heaters to supplement an immersion tank – don’t worry there is hot water even if the sun does not shine.  Our toilets are the normal flushing type but toilet waste is treated in an ecological composting system imported from Sweden – we are happy to provide more details to those interested! Recycling bins are provided including a compost bin for waste foodstuffs. We can’t produce our own electricity yet be we are looking in to it. Wood burners provide carbon neutral heating.

We understand that not everyone is keen to get their hands dirty so to speak, so from the user"s perspective everything runs just as a normal house, flush toilets, running hot water etc. The only real difference you are likely to notice is the requirement to sort rubbish –this is an Italian requirement in any event – put out the compost and light the wood burners for heating.
